Aaron Slaughter, Statewide Interoperability Coordinator, Texas Department of Public Safety
Aaron has served over 31 years in public safety serving as a Volunteer Firefighter, Career Firefighter for the City of Lockhart, and involved in radio communications for over 20 years . During that time, he was the Communications Coordinator responsible for managing the city's 800Mhz trunked radio system. In 2009, the City of Lockhart partnered with Bastrop County and the City of Austin to upgrade the radio system and join the Greater Austin/Travis Regional Radio System (GATRRS). In 2012, he joined the Texas Parks and Wildlife to pursue a career in radio communications. In 2013, joined the Texas Department of Public Safety a radio technician. He was promoted to RF/Technical Services Manager in 2015, responsible for 13 radio shops, 30 employees, and over 120 tower sites across the state. In 2024, Aaron was named the Statewide Interoperability Coordinator, responsible for working with emergency responders across local, regional, tribal, state, and federal levels of government to implement the Statewide Communications Interoperability Plan (SCIP). Aaron is a certified Electronics Technician, Communications Unit Leader (COML), and a Communications Technician (COMT) Instructor. He is a member of the Association of Public Safety Communications Officials (APCO), the National Council of Statewide Interoperability Coordinators (NCSWIC), and the Electronic Technicians Association (ETA).
