Chris Maiers, Iowa Statewide interoperability Coordinator, Iowa Statewide Interoperable Communications System Board
Chris Maiers was appointed as the SWIC for the State of Iowa in May of 2017. Chris has routinely coordinated and worked with interoperability stakeholders at the municipal, county, state, and federal level since his appointment. During this time, he has advised and worked closely with the Iowa Statewide Interoperable Communications System Board (ISICSB) to adopt over 70 standards, policies, technical recommendations, and statements designed to enhance interoperable communications processes with in- and out-of-state partners. In addition, he has assisted several hundred agencies get connected to the P25 Phase II 700/800 MHz Iowa Statewide Interoperable Communications System (ISICS) for interoperable communications and overseen the development of several training programs related to the use of the ISICS. Chris has also served as a point of contact for emergency communications responses following disasters such as the August 2020 derecho that impacted much of Iowa. In addition, Chris also serves as a voting member representing the State of Iowa and ISICSB on the TIA/TR-8 engineering committees, Executive Committee member of the National Council of Statewide Interoperability Coordinators (NCSWIC) representing Regional Interoperability Council VII, co-chair of the Joint SAFECOM and NCSWIC Technology Policy Committee and is a voting member of the P25 Steering Committee representing NCSWIC.
