Bob Finney, Director – Communications Technology Division, Collier County (FL) Sheriff's Office
Bob Finney is the Director of Communications Technology for the Collier County Sheriff's Office in Naples, Florida. Collier County is a coastal community where public safety, citizens, and business owners work together to ensure a safe place to live, work, and play. In 2024, Naples was voted the No. 1 place to live by U.S. News & World Report. Bob has 30 years of public safety communications experience working in the Emergency Communications Center (ECC). He began his career in the Pacific Northwest, where he was also a volunteer firefighter and EMT. Prior to becoming director, Bob held management, supervisory, and training roles. Bob is an active APCO, NENA, and IJIS member and has served on numerous committees, including the Florida APCO Training Committee and the Florida Certification Task Force, and he chaired the SW Florida Regional Domestic Security Task Force Communications Focus Group for 17 years. He serves on the board of directors of the Early Adopter Coalition and Partnership for Priority Verified Alarm Response (PPVAR.org) and is a member of the GM OnStar Public Safety Advisory Council. He is the co-chair of the NG911 Interoperability Task Force Finance Committee and sits on the IJIS Emergency Communications Center Evolution Working Group, user groups, and customer advisory boards. Bob enjoys leading highly motivated teams focused on modernizing legacy 9-1-1 systems to true NG911 and leveraging emerging technologies such as GIS, cloud services, artificial intelligence (AI), and real-time analytics. These capabilities, along with the convergence of multiple emergency IP networks, enable best-in-class solutions for a safer community.
