Billy Ferguson, 9-1-1 IT Supervisor, Charleston County Public Safety, Consolidated Emergency Communications Center
Billy Ferguson is an IT Supervisor with the Charleston County Consolidated Emergency Communications Center and a native of Charleston, South Carolina. He began his public safety career in 2010 as an emergency telecommunicator before transitioning into technical roles that support and advance modern 9-1-1 operations. With an education in mechanical engineering technology and cybersecurity, Billy found his passion in 2012 as an E911 System Technician, working hands-on with the systems that power emergency communications. Promoted to IT Supervisor in 2014, Billy oversees both front- and back-room systems and has played a key role in Charleston County’s transition from legacy infrastructure to Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG911). His expertise includes network engineering, cybersecurity, virtualization, and automation, with a strong focus on resilience and operational continuity. Billy is actively involved in the broader public safety and cybersecurity community, participating in organizations and events such as NENA, 9-1-1 Goes to Washington, MS-ISAC, DHS SVIP, and DEF CON. He regularly brings back insights on emerging technologies, evolving standards, and real-world lessons learned, and is passionate about sharing practical knowledge that helps public safety agencies move forward.
