RF/IP Linked Simulcast Systems Solve Coverage Issues in a Unique and Cost-Effective Manner
"Simulcast" typically brings the expectation of high costs, including expensive GPS and ultra-high stability frequency standards, a control layer, often implemented with a "prime" or master site and often a critically controlled network design. The introduction of radio equipment designed to implement simulcast with internal timing and structured to use simple radio linked or IP connected sites opens the possibility to apply simulcast in situations where it would have been impossible. This equipment solves these simulcast issues and can provide coverage without the cost and complexity of traditional simulcast system design. This technology is applicable to analog and digital systems, both P25 and DMR.
In this session, hear an overview of traditional simulcast design and why it had driven high costs, as well as how the use of technologies can be applied to reduce cost and complexity. Explore a variety of example use cases, including in-building, dense campus, multi-building, rapid deployment, and terrain limited situations where simulcast delivers superior communications coverage, unavailable with the other solutions often proposed to address costs. Understand its capabilities and the "where and when" this technology can be applied successfully. Lastly, learn about the limitations and situations which might indicate that other solutions should be investigated.
Takeaway
This session will:
-Expose the participants to the fundamentals of simulcast system design, and how those have previously driven a "high-tier" pricing structure.
-Introduce a lower costs approach to implementing simulcast across analog and digital LMR systems.
-Examine with multiple creative uses for simulcast technology solving multiple common coverage challenges.
-Provide the participants with not just the benefits and capabilities of this technology, but also teach the limitations of technology and when other solutions should be investigated.
