Getting Crash Data to 911: Telematics and Automated Notifications

When a serious crash happens and no one can call for help, Advanced Automatic Crash Notification (AACN) can tell 911 where the crash occurred and how severe it may be. Vehicle telemetry can reach 911 centers and responders in minutes, but delivering it consistently across manufacturers, telematics providers, carriers, and 911 systems remains a challenge.

NHTSA's National 911 Program has convened vehicle manufacturers, 911 leaders, wireless carriers, telematics software providers, and vehicle telemetry providers to work on how 911 centers receive ACN and AACN data. This session reports the results of the latest convening and the next steps to improve the crash data continuum.

Attendees will leave with a clear view of where AACN delivery stands, the technical and operational barriers that remain, including the role of accurate GIS data, and how network, device, and 911 technology providers can contribute.

Takeaway

• Understand the technical barriers to delivering crash data to 911 centers

• Know the next steps and how to get involved
