Daniel TagueLake County SheriffLake County

Daniel Tague serves as the elected Sheriff of Lake County Sheriff's Office, bringing nearly three decades of dedication and service to the citizens of Lake County, Oregon.

Sheriff Tague began his public service journey in 1997 as an Explorer with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office after earning his Eagle Scout rank and two palms, an achievement that reflected his early commitment to leadership, discipline, and community service. In 2004, while completing his degree in Fire Science, he became a Reserve Deputy with the agency. In 2007, he was hired full-time as a Deputy Sheriff and has proudly served Lake County ever since.

In 2008, Sheriff Tague was assigned Search and Rescue and Emergency Management as collateral duties in addition to his patrol responsibilities. As wildfire seasons intensified and emergency incidents increased across Southeastern Oregon, he was assigned full-time to Emergency Management and Search and Rescue in 2021 to help address the county’s growing response demands. In 2022, he joined the Oregon State Fire Marshal’s Office Incident Management Teams, where he serves as a liaison, coordinating between local agencies, state partners, and incident command staff. He has continued to serve on IMTs statewide, contributing to large-scale fire and disaster response efforts.

In 2025, he was appointed Sheriff of Lake County, a role he considers both an honor and a responsibility to the community he has served his entire career.

Outside of his law enforcement duties, Sheriff Tague serves as Volunteer Fire Chief for the Thomas Creek–Westside Rural Fire Protection District. He is also actively involved in youth development as a high school equestrian team coach and a 4-H horse club leader. When time allows, he works alongside his wife and family managing their 1,000-acre self-sufficient cattle ranch in Southeastern Oregon.

Sheriff Tague considers himself deeply blessed by the opportunities he has had to serve and remains committed to public safety, community resilience, and the rural way of life that defines Lake County.
