Gary recently retired from the City of Fort Lauderdale after serving for almost 25 years as the Assistant Telecommunications Manager/Radio Systems Manager responsible for the Public Safety Radio Systems operated by the City. His responsibilities included interfacing with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for licensing issues, Bi-Directional Amplifier (BDA) plans review, as well as field inspection of newly installed systems during their commissioning process. He also served the Broward Board of Rules and Appeals as their radio technical subject matter expert during the development of the BDA section of the Broward Building Code. He also sat on the Southeast Florida Region 7 Domestic Security Task Force Communications Work Group.

He was a key participant in the development of the NICET Emergency Responder Radio Communications System (ERRCS) levels one, two, three and designer certification tests, as well as the State of Florida electrical contractor BDA sections of their licensing exams. Gary is also a member of the Safer Buildings Coalition and the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) and has been active in public safety licensing matters in the State for several years.

Prior to moving to Florida from Michigan, he was the Midland County Department of Emergency Services Communications Officer for fifteen years, developing emergency communications plans and providing communications support during incidents within the County. Additionally, he worked for the Dow Chemical Company running their Radio Communications Group for nine years. Prior to working for Dow, he worked at a Motorola Service Shop as a Field Service Technician.

Gary holds several licenses from the FCC, including the General Radio Operator’s License, Amateur Radio General Class License, as well as GMRS and PLMRS licenses.
