Joe Colston is the Sheriff of Monroe County, Missouri. Sheriff Colston has served in law enforcement for more than 16 years and he was elected sheriff in 2020 after having been the chief deputy for several years. Before joining the sheriff’s office, he served as a volunteer firefighter for several years. Sheriff Colston oversaw the full deployment of smartphones to his agency, including leveraging the computing power of smartphones for in-car and in-station computing as well as body cameras. He participated in the installation of the in-car set-ups after conducting a use assessment of the agency’s software needs and applications. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is the first law enforcement agency in the nation to accomplish a full deployment of this technology in all patrol vehicles and deputy workstations.
