Viking Broadband: Multi-band Multi-protocol Public Safety Viking Radios Add Broadband Capability, Delivering New Capabilities to Public Safety
EFJohnson and ESChat have partnered to bring a series of new products to market in 2026.
The first product, Viking Broadband Voice is now available on the VP8000 Portable and VM8000 Mobile radios. The Vx8000 series radios provide public safety first responders with versatility and flexibility to operate in Multi-Protocol (P25, DMR, NXDN) and Multi-Band (UHF, VHF, 700/800MHz) modes. This is now further enhanced by adding broadband communication capability to the Vx8000 platform enabling communication on all ESChat networks, including ‘ESChat for Government’, which is FedRAMP® Authorized, GovRAMP™ Authorized and TX-RAMP Certified.
Viking Broadband Voice allows the Viking radios to seamlessly roam between the LMR and Broadband networks based on coverage or user preference. In the event the user is outside of LMR and Broadband coverage, the VP8000 and VM8000 radios support high-power off-network direct-mode communications. Attendees will also get a first look at some new and innovative ways to enhance LMR and Broadband interoperability, which has yet to be announced.
