Two public transportation providers in major U.S. cities are currently undertaking significant train control upgrade projects on their METRO Railways to replace their decades-old signaling systems with state-of-the-art 5G Communication-Based Train Control (CBTC) technology. This upgrade will leverage private 5G networks to ensure safe, secure, and instantaneous mission-critical communication between trains and control centers. By allowing trains to operate closer together without compromising safety, the system will dramatically increase capacity and efficiency—particularly in subway operations. For riders, these advancements will translate into shorter wait times, smoother trips, enhanced safety, and a more reliable transit experience across the networks.
