LMR is a very mature technology, with almost 100 years serving Public Safety. LMR is reliable, and most Public Safety comms protocols are written around it. But, LMR functions are relatively limited to PTT and 1-way location services.

In comparison, Public Safety Broadband offerings are about to celebrate 10 years of organized service. In addition to the LMR features mentioned above, Public Safety Broadband supports Situational Awareness / Common Operational Pictures, Messaging, Security, Video & Imagery capture and sharing, enhanced location services, community engagement, substantially higher bandwidths, professional applications, Mutual Aid, Logging and Report, with many more to come. Some of these offerings can be confusion.

Like most new technology markets and the current , the initial solutions offered for Public Safety Broadband often have proprietary and non-interoperable compoents.

These factors can make it challenging for many agencies navigating new broadband offerings from the 3 US primary carriers offering "Public Safety Grade" broadband services.

This session discusses major features offered to Public Safety, ways agencies can identify the right solutions to meet their needs, then make intelligent choices on which carrier, applications, features and products will give them the best overall user experience, with a path open to future enhancements.
