Broadband Enhanced, Not Broadband Dependent - LMR in the 21st Century

Michael Baltrotsky  (Assistant Chief, Montgomery County Maryland, Fire & Rescue Service)
Gabe Elias  (Statewide Interoperability Coordinator Commonwealth of Virginia, Commonwealth of Virginia)

Track: LMR & Broadband Devices
Format: Panel Session
Vault Recording: TBD

The future of public safety communications is unquestionably broadband enhanced. It should never become broadband dependent. Public safety should aggressively embrace LTE/5G, Mission Critical Push-to-Talk, video, data, artificial intelligence, non-terrestrial networks, Sidelink communications, and whatever comes next. But innovation does not require abandoning the communications architecture that already provides deterministic, resilient, mission-critical voice and data. The core question isn't LMR or broadband. It is how we architect LMR and broadband together. Hear a panel of public safety professionals examine how we move to the next level with LMR and broadband.

Takeaway

Resiliency is embedded within the LMR space.
Broadband is an amazing technology that should be leveraged completely by first responders.
Broadband enhances LMR. It does not have to replace it.
