NHTSA's National 911 Program continues to gather together key stakeholders —vehicle manufacturers, 911 leaders, wireless telecom companies, telematics software providers and vehicle telemetry providers—to discuss an urgent topic: how 911 centers receive Automatic Crash Notification (ACN) and Advanced Automatic Crash Notification (AACN) data from a motor vehicle when there's been a crash. Vehicle telemetry software can provide an overview of the severity of a crash, its precise location and alert 911 and first responders to the potential for serious injury or fatalities.

Enabling not just the transmission of telematics data, but ensuring it is accurate and simple for 911 centers to accept, use, and share this data with emergency responders is nothing short of lifesaving. When 911 has the right information and they can deliver the right care at the right time, a crash victim's chances for survival increase significantly. This session will outline the key takeaways from these stakeholder meetings, focusing on collaboration with public safety.

Takeaway

- What ACN/AACN technologies are and their potential in public safety
- Current challenges in delivering telematics data to 911 centers
- Opportunities for 911 professionals and first responders to leverage ACN/AACN information to save more lives with data-based dispatching and resourcing decisions
- Real-world use cases and summaries of pilot projects illustrating how ACN/AACN data is being used by 911 and EMS systems
