6G is Coming! What Does It Mean?
When 5G deployed, it was not an extension or expansion of 4G, but rather a completely different generation. As the planned successor of 5G, 6G will use new midband radio frequencies combined with existing mobile frequencies to deliver exponentially higher speeds and lower latency. Public safety is seeing the explosion of new digital communication platforms, messaging services, artificial intelligence, drone swarms, smart cameras, sensors and M2M, and multimedia technologies such as integrated satellites and 4D mapping, which are creating additional pathways to share critical information. Unlike traditional mobile users, these devices may act as active network participants rather than passive clients. This session will explore the latest developments impacting public safety, looking into the future of emergency communications, and how to prepare for a rich, increasingly connected environment where emergency requests extend beyond traditional voice networks and into a broader digital communications ecosystem.
Takeaway
-Anticipate changing public expectations for emergency communications.
-Evaluate operational and technology needs for a digital-first emergency response environment.
-Prepare public safety for the future of connected emergency communications.
