Bill Staney serves as the Public Safety Advisor for Mobility 4 Public Safety, which specializes in consulting services to develop mobility solutions that effectively address operational requirements across the broad spectrum of first responder functions. Bill recently retired as a Police Commander after a 40-year career with the Houston Police Department. Originally from the Annapolis, Maryland area, Commander Staney started his policing career in 1979 with the Baltimore Police Department as a patrol officer in the Western District. In 1981, he was recruited into the Houston Police Department, where he served in patrol, administrative, and investigative assignments, as he rose to the rank of Commander. He holds a Master of Science Degree from Sam Houston State University, and is a graduate of the Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas, as well as the City of Houston's Leadership Institute Program and is a Certified Protection Professional (CPP), receiving that certification from ASIS International. Commander Staney has received numerous Chief of Police, supervisor, and citizen commendations and awards. He has also volunteered his time with the advisory boards of the Harris County Criminal Justice Coordinating Council, Mental Health Standing Committee, Harris Center for Mental Health & IDD Community Work Group, Mayor's Challenge to Prevent Veteran Suicides, Parent's Anonymous, Northeast Family YMCA, Harris County Child Abuse Task Force, Child Advocates of Fort Bend County, Harris County Children's Assessment Center, and Paper Houses Across the Border. He is married to Caron Sue Staney, is father to Will and Elizabeth, and has four grandchildren.
