Chris Saunsoci Chief of PoliceYankton Sioux Tribe Police Department

Chris Saunsoci is a enrolled member of the Yankton Sioux Tribe and is the Yankton Sioux Tribal Police Chief in Lake Andes, South Dakota. Chief Saunsoci began his career in law enforcement as a police officer for the City of Lake Andes in 2001. His experience as a police officer with the City of Lake Andes of South Dakota and Omaha Tribe of Nebraska led him to the United States Indian Police Academy of the Bureau of Indian Affairs. He graduated from the United States Indian Police Academy in Artesia, New Mexico in several different fields including basic police academy, Lieutenant Command School and Chief Command School. He returned to his Tribal community, Yankton Sioux Tribe in 2011. By 2013, he became Chief of Police for Yankton Sioux Tribe.
In addition to managing the Yankton Sioux Tribal Police and having two decades of working in Indian Country Law Enforcement, he is the co-founder of Walks on the Day. Walks on the Day is a non-profit for long term recovery organization that was in response to the 2019 flooding that affected the White Swan community on the Yankton Sioux Reservation.
