Cisco Crisis Response (CCR) is a highly skilled and dedicated team that can mobilize and respond to natural disasters and other situations when normal communications infrastructure have been degraded or destroyed. CCR supports mission-critical public safety, government, critical infrastructure and nonprofit organizations, with equipment and trained personnel, all pro-bono. The team leverages its experience in these environments to provide training and consulting on communications resiliency and field-deployable communications assets.
Mr. Runyan joined Cisco in 1999 and has held various IT infrasturcure roles, including: systems and storage administration, as well as datacenter, campus, and remote office network design, implementation, and operation.
Matt started with Cisco's Crisis Response team in 2006 as a volunteer and has held a full-time role since 2010. His deployments include 5 trips to Haiti since the 2010 earthquake, Alabama for the 2011 tornadoes, the NY/NJ area for super storm Sandy, refugee crisis in Europe, Hurricanes Maria, Florence, and Michael, as well as numerous full-scale exercises.
In addition, Mr. Runyan is a contract instructor for DHS/CISA Emergency Communications Division, developing and delivering courses including IT Service Unit Leader (ITSL), Communications Unit Leader (COML), JAMX / Resilient Communications for first responders, and PACE planning.
Matt was also a volunteer Firefighter / EMT with Apex (NC) Fire Department, serving his community for over 17 years, and functions as a credentialed COML (Communications Unit Leader) and COMC (Communications Coordinator) with North Carolina Emergency Management. Matt holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from North Carolina State University.
