Dan Nelson, Training Specialist, Alaska Land Mobile Radio
Dan Nelson has been working in public safety within the State of Alaska for over fifteen years. His career started as a public safety dispatcher, answering 911 emergency calls and working with first responders. On the other side of the microphone, he was a volunteer EMS responder for eight years and had the opportunity to work in a regulatory environment, including habitat protection and flood mitigation, before moving to the Kenai Peninsula Borough Office of Emergency Management in 2012. With a jurisdiction of over 16,000 square miles, Dan worked to manage and enhance volunteer programs, implement continuity planning, create disaster exercises, and respond directly to natural disasters within Alaska, eventually being promoted to director. In mid 2021 he formed a public safety consulting company and works as the training manager for the Alaska Land Mobile Radio network, a partnership of local, state, and federal agencies. Dan holds a bachelors degree in Information Technology and a masters in Emergency Services Management, as well as several related certifications.
