James Laney, Head of Autonomy & Applications , Ghost Robotics
James Laney joined Ghost Robotics in October of 2017 to lead the Autonomy and Applications team. At Ghost, James works on a variety of perception, planning and machine learning tasks specific to legged robots, enabling them to navigate unstructured terrain, run complex missions, and provide remote sensing capabilities for defense and industrial applications. James is also the go to field engineer for military and industrial projects responsible for systems integration and robot networking. Prior to Ghost Robotics James, worked at Draper Laboratories as a Perception and Localization Engineer. At Draper he was the Technical Lead for developing advanced AR position tracking for large-scale industrial capabilities using vision-aided inertial odometry and he developed machine learning models for autonomous parafoil systems providing high altitude GPS denied localization. James began his career as a Research Scientist at the Georgia Tech Research Institute where he was responsible for hardware systems integration and simulation environments for Future Airborne Capability Environment (FACE). James received his Masters in Information Systems from Carnegie Mellon University where he leads several development efforts involving autonomous anomaly detection and gesture-controlled UAVs. James received a B.S. in Applied Physics from Emory University.
