As a relatively new industry, in-building wireless public-safety communications has rapidly grown over the past decade, in contrast with the size and market penetration of the more established and mature fire and life safety industry. Safer Buildings Coalition estimates there are at least one million buildings in the US that have "Wireless Dead Zones," and newer buildings present even greater challenges due to modern energy efficient building materials.
There's an old saying: "If you want to go fast, go alone; but if you want to go far, go together."
The saying informs a strategic paradigm shift needed to not only increase the number of buildings in which first responders can communicate during an emergency but, more importantly, accelerate the rate at which buildings are addressed. This session features leaders representing the traditional in-building wireless industry and the traditional fire and life-safety industry to have a frank conversation about where we are, and how we can leverage the significant experience and skill sets of each sector so we can scale up to meet the challenge.
Takeaway
Takeaways:
- There are more buildings that have Wireless Dead Zones requiring a solution than there are current resources to address the problem
- The legacy in-building wireless and radio shop vendors, and the newer fire and life-safety entrants into the sector, bring complimentary skills and experiences to the ecosystem - but collaboration is nascent - and frankly, needs work.
- Via a frank, moderated conversation between representatives of two large players from these industries, attendees will learn the natural alliance opportunities that will help us reach scale.
