It’s been two decades since the 9/11 terrorist attacks, when making LMR communications became a focus of policy, funding and technological decisions in the U.S. After more than a billion federal dollars have been invested in the name of LMR voice interoperability, has the problem been solved. Meanwhile, use of various versions of broadband voice technologies have emerged, with the latest being the mission-critical-push-to-talk (MCPTT) standard from 3GPP. What are the hopes of achieving interoperability between all of the these LMR and LTE push-to-talk solutions when some of the most popular push-to-talk-over-cellular (PoC) systems are not interoperable with each other. Learn about the technologies being used to bridge interoperability gaps and hopes for more seamless integration between disparate systems.
