What happens when you need coverage where there isn't any – a rural area, the middle of a body of water, after a disaster? Zero connectivity and no backhaul, you need a solution that must be transportable, resilient, secure and cost-effective. You need to gain connection in little to no time. How do you duplicate LMR performance in an off-network scenario—when coverage is lost or never existed in the first place. This type of Mission Critical Push-to-Talk capability will be hard to achieve but is absolutely needed. Given the design and power levels of most LTE devices, there are significant physics constraints for direct-mode operations via 3GPP Proximity Services (ProSe), particularly when compared to high-power LMR performance. From low-earth orbit satellite to backpacks to pelican cases, hear examples of "bring the network with you" technologies that are portable, broadband-speed fast, able to survive in non-ideal conditions and turnkey, in unforgiving, low-coverage/no coverage environments.
