Three primary stakeholders currently own and operate the radio network, known as the Nevada Shared Radio System (NSRS): Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT), Nevada Energy (NV Energy), and Washoe County. The three entities formed a public-private partnership and decided that a joint or shared system would best serve the interests of all the system users. With NV Energy's coverage in many rural and remote areas, NDOT's coverage along the primary state highways, and Washoe County's primary coverage of Reno and Lake Tahoe, this combined coverage footprint provided improved statewide coverage for all users. Each of these stakeholders own, operate and maintain their own particular network, but the system operates as a statewide system.
Takeaway
Stakeholders from each entity will describe the challenges and benefits of the utility, transportation, and local shared system and how other utility, public service, and public safety entities can leverage and share infrastructure for their mutual benefit.
