Over the years we have become more and more dependent upon GPS for positioning, navigation and timing (PNT) in the support of communications, energy, traffic control and other services. In more recent years we have begun to learn about vulnerabilities of GPS due to jamming, spoofing and now even the potential destruction of our GPS system by our enemies. Discuss the actions being taken by the States of Texas, Washington, Illinois and Virginia to establish a terrestrial backup PNT system. Also discuss a National Guard Bureau nationwide plan, state implementation plans and potential funding sources. Lastly, the panel will share a national timing backbone plan and technologies that could be used to distribute this timing service.
Takeaway
What is the National Guard Bureau NITRO plan
What are last mile technologies that could be used to distribute the timing signals
How could the network be funded
What are State approaches to governance
What are the risks associated with loss of GPS and how could it be lost
