Changes in technology and changes in the economy have caused changes in government. Consolidation of functions has placed the radio communications departments of governments under the auspices of information technology managers or communication center managers, neither of whom have any experience or knowledge of the technical aspects of radio communication. This class will provide the basics of radio communication technology, FCC regulations that control the systems and technical operations that keeps them relevant. You will learn about the types of communication technology used by the first responders that they are now in charge of, the way these radio systems operate, the networks that support them, the staff that operates them as well as being able to understand the technical staff that maintain and improve them.
- Understand the technology and technical management of first responders and government radio systems.
- Understand the federal rules and regulations that all hardware and software radio communications equipment must comply.
- Non-technical managers and supervisors will learn the 'jargon' of radio technical staff in order to appreciate the importance of keeping these systems operating efficiently.
