In 2024 the first narrowband broadband hybrid system is established as a apart of KETUM system in Adana, 5th largest city in Türkiye. DMR and private LTE base stations which will serve hybrid terminals has been deployed along with LTE Core and 3GPP Mission Critical System for Turkish Police.
Today, KETUM (the encrypted mission critical communication system of Turkish Police) is on its way to becoming the second nationwide mission critical public safety system; 500,000 users and thousands of hybrid base stations are planned for narrowband and broadband. KETUM fully covers the Adana police duty area with minimum number of DMR and LTE base stations with hybrid operation.
For public safety, necessary coordination is established by voice and video communication. First responders need mobile coverage units besides fixed system coverage providing flexibility, durability and modularity. KETUM provides mobile base stations in a chest, on a trailer, and on UAV that works as a coverage extension. In such mobile solutions, there are many communication interfaces, not only cellular but also fiber optic to satellite communication, in digital clean or encrypted mode, as open standard or closed protocols.
KETUM also provides data rich communication in critical operations such as reporting an incident, assigning a task, receiving information about the area, inquiries such as CitizenID, LicenseID, Car-plateID, and secure messaging, and secure video group call thanks to MC-broadband services. KETUM also introduces hybrid broadband and LMR radio HYBRA3810 which is practical, lightweight, rugged and multi-functional portable.
Takeaway
-LMR + Broadband Hybrid Systems and Terminals will be the only option in public safety communications
-Public Safety Communication System Solutions must deploy mobile (trailer, UAVs, drone) coverage expanders.
-First Responders need data-rich and video-based applications and systems that allow it.
-LMR - Broadband automatic handover solution is needed to have the first responder to fully utilize hybrid systems.
