Brock Brunson (Police Officer, Chicago Police Department)
John McMahon (Deputy Chief, Chief Information Officer, Los Angeles Police Department)
Track: First Responders
Topics: Broadband, Interoperability, Situational Awareness
Format: Panel Session
Vault Recording: TBD
This session will showcase advanced applications in use by several major law enforcement agencies, including the largest and second-largest police departments in the U.S. (New York and Chicago). See how these two agencies identified a need and leveraged technology to build a solution informed directly by first responders. These applications leverage public safety broadband communications networks to provide critical real-time situational awareness information designed to enhance both the safety and effectiveness of police officers. Although featuring large agencies, the workshop will also highlight how smaller and mid-sized agencies can develop similar solutions without great expense.
o NYPD's Augmented Reality (AR) Mobile App: Street View (Provides situational awareness for police officers using real-time spatial data from a range of sources, NYPD issues smartphones to every officer). Uses ESRI AuGeo mobile app that leverages ArcGIS map data.
o CPD's Strategic Decision Support Center (SDSC) Mobile Application for real-time situational awareness including access to live video, sensor alerts, officer safety bulletins, and connectivity with fusion center. Uses Genetec Citigraf app, Samsung DEX.
Takeaway
•Understand the Integration of Advanced Mobile Applications in Law Enforcement.
•Learn how the two largest police departments in the United States identified a situational awareness gap and developed a technical solution to address it.
•Understand how lessons learned, and strategies utilized from these exciting projects can be applied to other agencies, and identify other opportunities to be addressed leveraging emerging technical capabilities.
