Last Summer, Paris held the 2024 Olympic Games, the world's largest and most prestigious sporting event with over 200 participating countries. Hosting the games involves many environmental, political, economic, and social challenges – one of which is the logistics of transporting 11 million visitors around the city.

To link the various Olympic venues, the public transport network needed to be extended with four lines to form a ring around Paris. 'Le grand Paris Express', which involves the construction of 200km of automated lines and 68 new stations, is currently the largest infrastructure project in Europe and will be entirely carbon-free.

Against a backdrop of multiple threats - terrorism, cyber-attacks, health crisis - security was an important consideration for this project. The metro system required highly-resilient network infrastructure for trackside signaling, video surveillance and IoT connectivity, and critical on-board communication for driverless trains.

This session will discuss the challenges of customizing and developing networking and communications solutions tailored to the unique requirements of the project and delve into the details of implementing a secure multi-service network integrated with industry specific protocols.

It will also discuss the benefits of innovative AI-empowered workflow crisis management with contextual information (location, IoTs) based on real-time monitoring, with machine learning capabilities.

Takeaway

• Understand the challenges faced when designing infrastructure and networks to support a major global event.
• Learn about the importance of multiservice networks (LAN & WLAN) for public transportation systems and their role in supporting train signaling and IoT management.
• Delve into the security considerations for projects of this scope and scale.
• Gain practical insight into the benefits of AI-empowered workflow crisis management.
