Track: Interoperability

Format: Power Session

Vault Recording: TBD

Public Safety innovators who have deployed LTE Mission Critical Push to Talk and connected these users to Land Mobile Radio users through commercial Interworking solutions have a lot to teach us from their experiences with these early deployments. Integrating with the carriers, choosing among MCPTT services, Interworking vendors and other solutions providers that are integral to effective communications with MCPTT and LTE LMR Interworking, training users on MCPTT on smartphones, etc. are all unfamiliar activities for public safety communications professionals. These early installations can tell us a lot about best practices, challenges, pitfalls, and success stories, and can accelerate, or delay, the implementation of FirstNet, Verizon's Push to Talk Responder, Southern Linc's CriticalLink, and other MCPTT solutions provided by the carriers. This session will present a brief overview of technology alternatives available to implement LMR LTE Interworking, and then a customer presentation describing how the technology choices were made and how they effect communications between LMR users and LTE users with MCPTT applications. We'll review the use cases, the process for implementing MCPTT and Interworking, and the experiences of deploying MCPTT in a public safety organization.

Takeaway

Session participants will learn: * What applications drove the interest to deploy LTE based MCPTT, and what was the requirement for Interworking with existing LMR users? * What technologies are available to implement MCPTT and LTE LMR Interworking, and how was the decision to deploy the chosen technologies made? * What was the experience of installing and deploying MCPTT and Interworking - the vendors, the carriers, the end users? * How has the system performed, what are the key takeaways, what were the success stories and what could be improved?
