Recent hardware and software developments will be discussed to improve, simplify, and lower the cost of tracking the sources of interference. These techniques can localize the probable area of the interference source to within one mile allowing engineers or technicians to quickly locate and identify the source. Once the source is identified remedial action can begin. These developments increase the efficiency of organizations in the PTT and LMR spaces and enhance radio system reliability.

Takeaway

• Interference is a growing problem taxing the resources of communications entities.
• Recently available technology can significantly reduce the time and cost of interference mitigation over past practices.
• Overview and case studies of techniques for interference identification using past practices versus currently available technology.
• What to do and not do if procuring an RFI location system.
